Established in 1996, Bairnsley is the most well known and successful in Auastralia. At the end of 2024, 23 of the previous 34 Australian Highland Cattle National Show grand champion bulls and females were out of a Bairnsley cow or by a Bairnsley bull (or both).
The goals at Bairnsley centre around improving the quality of Highland cattle in Australia by way of ensuring these animals retain their well known attributes of quiet temperaments, being hardy and essentially problem free, graceful movement and plenty of high quality beef. We also want to maintain their Highland character, so lots of hair, thick deep bodies and traditional horn shape.
We do this by regularly traveling overseas (mostly back to Scotland) to look for cattle that fit our breeding goals, and bringing back frozen semen and embryos from these animals to ensure genetic diversity that will allow the breed to survive and flourish in Australia.

Highland Cattle For Sale
We have Highland cows & heifers for sale most of the year for those wishing to breed cattle, and for those who have smaller properties and just want some paddock ornaments, we have trained, quiet steers that will look the part, but you won’t have to worry about the neighbour’s Angus bull jumping the fence to get at them.
Contact us at Bairnsley Highlands if you want to know more about purchasing a Highland for yourself.
